Our Story
Nearly a Century of River Life
The Rocktop Lodge was built almost 100 years ago as Henry Hess's river house. Hess made his fortune in the lumber business, felling redwoods from the Russian River area to help rebuild San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. The property was part of a larger estate that once spanned both sides of Westside Road. After Hess passed away, the Willis family bought the lodge and installed the pool in the 1950s—you can still spot the "W" embedded on the pool deck. The current owner purchased Rocktop in 2017 and restored it into the lodge you see today, honoring its past while bringing it fully into the present.
